Chief of Staff, Director of Legal Operations

Role Overview

Chief of Staff, Director of Legal Operations within the Office of the Chief Legal Officer (CLO). This role is a central operational partner to the CLO, combining Legal Operations leadership with Chief of Staff responsibilities to set long-term strategy, drive execution, and measure progress.

Responsibilities

Chief of Staff (Strategic Partnership)

• Partner with the CLO and leadership team to define and execute long-term strategy.
• Own operational planning cycles, including OKR processes, roadmap development, and cross-functional coordination.

Legal Operations Leadership

• Lead and develop the Legal Operations function, including managing the team.
• Own the global Legal budget, forecasting, and accruals.
• Lead Legal vendor strategy (outside counsel, legal tech, e-billing) with data-driven performance and spend optimization.
• Maintain and evolve the Legal tech stack (e.g., CLM, e-billing, litigation tools).
• Design streamlined intake and triage systems for cross-functional partners.

Reporting and Performance

• Build and own the performance tracking framework.
• Create automated dashboards and real-time progress views, using AI to synthesize cross-practice-area inputs into actionable updates for the CLO and executive leadership.

Cross-Functional Integration

• Serve as the strategic liaison between the CLO organization and Finance, Go-to-Market, Customer Success, Product, Engineering, and Marketing.
• Ensure CLO departments are integrated into business decisions early.
• Lead/support critical cross-functional initiatives, including post-acquisition integration where needed.

AI and Operational Tooling

• Identify and implement AI tools and workflows to reduce friction and improve the quality of legal operations.
• Advance AI transformation through the Legal Operations roadmap, with an ongoing practice of evaluating automation opportunities.

Success Measures

• Quality and velocity of CLO-level decision-making (time-to-alignment/time-to-action).
• Stakeholder confidence in clear communication and consistent execution.
• Legal Ops health: budget accuracy, vendor performance, tech stack utilization, and AI transformation outcomes.
• Reduced coordination breakdowns across CLO functions.
