About the role

Role Overview

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) leads the company’s technology organization and drives enterprise IT and digital transformation initiatives. Reporting to the CFO, the CIO modernizes Greenbrier’s technology foundation and ensures stability, security, and performance of enterprise systems across an asset-intensive, decentralized operating environment.

Key Responsibilities

Set and execute enterprise IT & digital strategy aligned to business priorities, operating model, and long-term growth.
Lead technology execution across three workstreams:
- Run (operational stability)
- Improve (automation and process enhancement)
- Transform (platform modernization and analytics enablement)
Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on technology investments, risk, and value creation.
Provide people and culture leadership for diverse technology teams (mentoring, empowering, inclusive decision-making, accountability for results/security/service quality).
Enable operations by partnering with plant and operational leadership, including uptime, safety, productivity, and quality.
Oversee technology initiatives including:
- Microsoft 365 / ERP implementation (North America)
- Salesforce deployment and planned mid-year integrations
- Transportation and warehouse management systems modernization (TMS and costing)
- Leasing-solution RFP, with emphasis on analytics and data visibility
- Drive simplification and standardization across siloed systems and processes.
Partner on operational technology (OT) environments and enable effective use of data, analytics, and digital platforms across manufacturing, leasing, and services.

Requirements / Profile

Proven ability to lead end-to-end enterprise IT and digital transformations in complex, geographically distributed, asset-intensive organizations.
Strong focus on security and stability of enterprise systems, with practical support for manufacturing / shop-floor environments.
Experience guiding enterprise platforms and integrations across ERP, CRM, and logistics/operations systems.

Nice-to-Haves (implied)

Familiarity with OT/infrastructure cybersecurity for distributed manufacturing and maintenance operations.
Experience enabling analytics and data visibility for leasing and commercial teams.
