Bioinformatics Manager (Oncology Product Development)

Role Overview

Natera is seeking a Bioinformatics Manager (Oncology Product Development) to lead the Bioinformatics team supporting the design, development, and validation of ctDNA-based diagnostic tests. You will manage a team of bioinformaticians and data scientists while providing technical leadership across the full product lifecycle—from research through commercial launch.

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve diagnostic test tools and analysis pipelines, including:
  • detection of cancer-associated variants or methylation patterns
  • implementation of evidence-based quality control thresholds
• Provide technical leadership for product development projects by representing the team in cross-functional work and driving products through the development process.
• Supervise bioinformatics scientists and data scientists:
  • manage technical contributions and team prioritization
  • support technical and professional development
• Contribute expert input on experiment design, analysis, and interpretation aligned to Natera’s technology and relevant mathematical principles.
• Operate with high independence and ownership of assignments.
• Contribute to intellectual property (IP) portfolio.
• Set standards for rigorous data analysis and lead high-quality documentation.

Requirements

• Master’s or Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline (bioinformatics, engineering, applied mathematics, statistics, or similar).
• 4–8 years post-graduate experience in data science and/or bioinformatics.
• 1–3 years experience as a technical lead in diagnostics or a related field.
• Experience moving algorithm-based products to commercialization/launch in medical or biological applications (e.g., diagnostic testing, medical imaging, biotechnology).

Nice to Have

• Experience analyzing or modeling DNA methylation data.

Skills & Knowledge

• Proficiency using Python and/or R for scientific data analysis and visualization.
• Strong background in statistical modeling / machine learning (probability theory, estimation/classification methods).
• Experience analyzing next-generation sequencing data (preferably including algorithm development/optimization).
• Ability to apply mathematical principles to real estimation problems and implement practical solutions.
• Track record leading technical projects (milestones, task delegation, ensuring deliverable quality).
• Excellent communication skills and comfort working in a collaborative, dynamic environment.
