About the role
Role Overview
Backend Software Engineer (US Remote), full-time. You’ll design, build, and scale integration-heavy backend services that process large volumes of transactions and data in a high-ownership engineering culture.
What You’ll Do
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services using TypeScript and NestJS
- Architect scalable APIs, integrations, and event-driven systems
- Build and optimize high-throughput workflows for large transaction/data volumes
- Design data models, service architectures, and integration patterns for distributed systems
- Develop asynchronous processing using queues, workers, and background jobs
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Operations to translate requirements into scalable solutions
- Improve platform reliability, performance, and operational efficiency
- Implement observability: logging, monitoring, metrics, tracing, and alerting
- Contribute to API design, documentation, and internal tooling
- Participate in architectural discussions and influence long-term platform strategy
- Use modern AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and code quality
- Own projects end-to-end from design through deployment and ongoing optimization
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional backend engineering experience
- Strong TypeScript experience and production backend development with NestJS (or similar Node.js frameworks)
- Proven experience designing/building scalable backend services and APIs
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous processing
- Experience integrating with third-party APIs, webhooks, and external platforms
- Solid system design skills for large-scale, complex architectures
- Experience with observability/monitoring and production troubleshooting
- Strong software engineering best practices (testing, maintainability)
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration
- Proactive, ownership-driven mindset; able to work independently in a remote environment
Nice to Have
- Queue/background job tools such as BullMQ (or similar)
- Familiarity with Next.js or modern frontend frameworks
- Experience with high-volume, transactional or integration-heavy systems
- Exposure to cloud infrastructure and DevOps best practices
- Startup/high-growth environment experience
- Knowledge of microservices and platform engineering concepts
- Experience using AI-powered development tools in the workflow
