Senior Backend Software Engineer (Production Systems)

This fully remote role is focused on building and operating backend services that run in production at scale. You’ll own systems end-to-end, including reliability, incident response, and cross-team collaboration.

What you’ll do

• Build and operate production backend services at scale
• Own services end-to-end: design, deployment, monitoring, and incident response
• Design for retries, partial failures, and eventual consistency in distributed systems
• Define and enforce contracts between services (APIs, schemas, interfaces)
• Debug real production issues across application and infrastructure layers
• Work with platform teams to deploy and operate services in Kubernetes
• Improve CI/CD pipelines, testing, and release processes

What you’ve done (requirements)

• Built and operated production systems and handled incidents when things break
• Strong understanding of distributed systems failure modes and imperfect data
• Experience designing or working with versioned APIs and backward compatibility
• Responsible for service health: metrics, logging, alerting, and on-call
• Written code in a real language such as Python, Java, Go, or C#
• Comfortable debugging both application and infrastructure issues
• Experience deploying and operating services in Kubernetes

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with streaming systems, pipelines, or large-scale data
• Background in regulated environments where access and audit matter
