Role overview

Backend Software Engineer (Applications Team) at Sparetech. You will build and maintain backend services powering a customer-facing web application, collaborating with frontend engineers, product managers, and designers.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain backend services for Sparetech’s web application
  • Deliver reliable, secure, and scalable user-facing workflows
  • Own features end-to-end: technical design, implementation, testing, deployment, and support
  • Debug and resolve issues in distributed systems and production environments
  • Write clean, well-tested, pragmatic code with a focus on performance

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of professional backend software engineering experience
  • JVM-based language experience: Java, Kotlin, or Scala
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining backend systems in cross-functional teams
  • Ability to debug and troubleshoot autonomously in distributed/production environments
  • Working knowledge of relational databases and query optimization (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL)

Nice to have

  • Exposure to search technologies (e.g., Elasticsearch)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, containers, and observability tools
  • Experience with workflow-heavy, user-facing products

Collaboration

You’ll work closely with teams across the stack, including stakeholders, product managers, designers, and engineers.
