Backend Software Engineer (Applications Team)

Overview

You’ll build and maintain backend services for Sparetech’s customer-facing web application. You’ll collaborate with frontend, product, and design teams to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable user workflows—owning features end-to-end from design to production support.

Key Missions

• Build and maintain backend services powering Sparetech’s web application.
• Collaborate with engineers across the stack (frontend), plus product and design to ship user-focused workflow improvements.
• Own backend features end-to-end: technical design, implementation, testing, deployment, and support.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience with JVM-based languages (Java, Kotlin, or Scala).
• Strong collaboration and communication with stakeholders, product managers, designers, and engineers.
• Working knowledge of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL or MySQL) and query optimization.
• Ability to debug and resolve issues independently in distributed systems / production.
• Hands-on experience building and maintaining backend systems in cross-functional teams.
• Care about clean code, testing, performance, and pragmatic software craftsmanship.

Nice-to-Haves

• Exposure to search technologies (e.g., Elasticsearch).
• Familiarity with CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, containerized environments, and observability tooling.
• Experience with workflow-heavy, user-facing products.
