About the role
Role overview
As Backend Engineering Team Lead at M-KOPA, you will spearhead delivery of a new loan origination architecture, compliance systems, and a pricing platform. You’ll lead a team of backend engineers, set architectural direction, and work closely with your Product Manager counterpart.
Key missions & responsibilities
- Lead and grow a team of backend engineers across design, development, and delivery of:
- loan origination architecture
- compliance systems
- pricing platform
- Set architectural direction and provide technical guidance to the team
- Partner with Product on roadmap planning and delivery execution
- Act as a servant leader, mentoring and fostering a collaborative environment
- Ensure engineering best practices, including:
- DevOps culture
- Infrastructure as Code
- Observability
- Automated testing
- Continuous delivery
Requirements
- Azure cloud services experience
- Strong backend engineering leadership with a low-ego, people-development mindset
- Solid understanding of event-driven architecture and microservices
- e.g., Service Bus, RabbitMQ, Kafka
- Comfortable working with Product to shape roadmaps and drive delivery
- Experience leading and/or mentoring engineers in a collaborative setting
- Strong hands-on background in C#/.NET backend development
Nice-to-haves
- Experience delivering large-scale platforms in fintech domains (loan origination, compliance, pricing)
