Backend Engineer (Fully Remote)

Role Overview

As a Backend Engineer, you will help prioritize, prototype, and ship features that directly impact the product and customer outcomes. You’ll work closely with AI researchers and engineers with autonomy to shape the core architecture.

Responsibilities

Collaborate to prioritize, prototype, and ship new product features
Contribute to the real-time learning engine and core systems
Build and maintain APIs and data pipelines connecting live user behavior to self-learning systems
Communicate technical decisions and trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Improve engineering practices to safely accelerate delivery (e.g., enhanced AI coding, streamlined CI/CD, improved QA)
Own what you ship: investigate logs/traces, identify root causes, and strengthen the testing setup
Work with autonomy, sharing context rather than being handed tasks

Requirements

5+ years building and maintaining production applications
Familiarity building agentic systems at scale
AI/web application expertise, including:
- APIs, databases, asynchronous processing
- Testing, Git, CI/CD, performance optimization
Proficiency in multiple languages, commonly Python, SQL, TypeScript, and React
Ability to ramp quickly on complex codebases and manage multiple parallel Claude code instances
Collaborative at the abstract level; self-sufficient at the code level
Strong math/analytical background
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering/Mathematics or related field

Desired Qualifications

Enjoy testing new tools/frameworks and spinning up prototypes
Have run an LLM locally
Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and GCP
Experience with ClickHouse queries and optimization

Compensation & Benefits

$165K–$190K base salary + stock options

Location / Work Schedule

Fully remote, HQ in Boston, MA
Working hours: 9–5 EST
Travel: onsite to headquarters every 6 weeks for 2 days
