About the role
Role overview
Senior Backend Engineer for a Node.js + AWS role on an hourly contract, remote (US). You will design, build, and optimize backend services, including microservices and AI-enabled workflows.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize backend services using Node.js and AWS
- Architect and implement scalable microservices across distributed systems
- Integrate AI capabilities into backend workflows and product features
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align solutions with business objectives
- Write clean, maintainable, well-documented code following engineering best practices
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex backend issues to maintain system reliability
- Communicate technical concepts effectively (written and verbal) in a remote environment
Requirements
- Strong production experience building backend applications with Node.js
- Strong knowledge of AWS for deployment, scalability, and monitoring
- Strong experience designing and implementing microservices architectures
- Understanding of AI integration within backend systems and workflows
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership remotely
- Experience with version control and CI/CD pipelines
Contract details
- Type: Hourly contract
- Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
