Backend Engineer (Node.js) | $80/hr Remote

Role overview

Senior Backend Engineer to design and build scalable backend services using Node.js and AWS, with opportunities to integrate AI capabilities into backend workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize backend services with Node.js and AWS
• Architect and implement scalable microservices across distributed systems
• Integrate AI capabilities into backend workflows and product features
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align technical solutions to business goals
• Write clean, maintainable, well-documented code and follow engineering best practices
• Troubleshoot and debug complex backend issues to ensure reliability
• Communicate technical concepts effectively (written and verbal)

Requirements

• Strong experience building production-grade backend applications with Node.js
• Strong knowledge of AWS (deployment, scalability, monitoring)
• Strong experience designing and implementing microservices architectures
• Understanding of AI integration within backend systems and workflows
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and take ownership in a remote environment
• Experience with version control and CI/CD pipelines

Contract details

• Hourly contract
• Remote
• 10–40 hours/week (commitment stated as 10–40)
• Compensation shown as $30–$80/hour
