Backend Engineer (Flag Delivery)

Role Overview

Backend Software Engineer on LaunchDarkly’s Flag Delivery team. You will build and improve backend services that power LaunchDarkly’s flag delivery systems, debug production issues, and partner closely with other teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, improve, and operate backend services that support flag delivery systems.
• Support delivery models for LaunchDarkly SDKs, including streaming and polling.
• Debug production problems and improve service reliability.
• Maintain high standards for latency, availability, observability, and operability.
• Participate in on-call and production support.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience.
• Strong programming skills in Go, Java, Rust, or a similar backend language (team primarily uses Go).
• Ability to reason about code, architecture, and system behavior.
• Familiarity with distributed systems fundamentals: caching, concurrency, failure modes, and reliability.
• Experience building and/or operating production backend systems.
• Experience debugging production issues using observability.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills across engineering teams.
• Willingness to participate in on-call/production support.
• Willingness and ability to work effectively with AI while maintaining technical judgment.
• Learning orientation and comfort working with senior engineers.
