Backend Engineer

Role Overview

As one of Augment’s first engineers, you will work closely with the founders and own engineering infrastructure end-to-end. You’ll help take the product from zero to one, with a strong focus on building reliable systems and shipping real features.

Responsibilities

• Develop new products, features, and integrations
• Design robust end-to-end backend systems supporting high-value transactions (hundreds of millions of dollars)
• Own engineering infrastructure and product deliverables
• Enhance technical architecture, infrastructure, security, tools, testing, and code quality
• Contribute to team culture and assist with recruitment efforts

Requirements

• Enjoy building products and engineering infrastructure from scratch
• Strong computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, and systems design
• Write clean, robust code with a disciplined approach to testing
• Thrive in ambiguity and uncertainty

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with a modern programming language with substantial code contributions: Go, React.js, Python, Scala
• Knowledge of public cloud platforms: AWS, GCP
• Strong understanding of relational databases (e.g., MySQL)
• Experience with serverless technologies (e.g., AWS Lambda)
• Passion for fintech & marketplaces

Engineering Stack & Processes

• Frontend: Next.js
• Backend: Go, Bash, Python
• Infrastructure: AWS, Lambda, S3, CloudFront, MySQL
• Integrations: SendGrid, Twilio, and third-party data providers
• Rigorous code reviews
• CI/CD with automated deployment (multiple releases daily)

• Remote or hybrid in offices: San Francisco, NYC, or Austin
