About the role

Role: Backend Engineer, AI Security (Foundational)

Join Stripe’s AI Security team as the first engineer on the team. The team builds and partners to create enterprise-grade security primitives for AI, working in the low-level components of Stripe’s AI stack.

Responsibilities

Build security frameworks integrated with Stripe’s core AI infrastructure
Design and implement defenses against AI-specific threats (e.g., prompt injection, jailbreaks, tool misuse)
Collaborate across engineering teams to ensure AI infrastructure and products are built securely
Support teams integrating security primitives into AI systems
Uphold high engineering standards and improve codebase and engineering processes
Design and build systems to advance the state of the art in AI security

Requirements

5+ years of software development experience
Experience independently designing and developing medium-to-large projects
Ability to work collaboratively across multiple engineering teams
Track record of writing high-quality code in a major programming language
Ability to drive clear next steps in an ambiguous, fast-changing environment
Ability to reason clearly through complex problem domains

Preferred Qualifications

Experience developing, deploying, and maintaining reliable infrastructure systems
Security engineering experience
Experience building AI agents or LLM-based systems
