Backend Developer

Role Overview

Toro is hiring a Backend Engineer (employee #8) to build and scale the systems behind its AI-driven recruitment analytics platform. You’ll help ingest recruitment data from multiple sources, process it through LLM pipelines, and support delivery of insights to customers via the company’s Next.js/React frontend.

What You’ll Do

• Build backend services and APIs to ingest, process, and serve recruitment data at scale
• Design data models and pipelines for complex staffing workflows
• Integrate with third-party platforms such as Bullhorn ATS, Salesforce, and Dynamics
• Contribute to the AI/LLM processing pipeline to extract insights from unstructured communication data
• Help shape technical direction as an early team member; collaborate across the stack when needed

What You Bring

• 3+ years professional experience with TypeScript and Node.js
• Strong experience with MongoDB, including schema design, indexing, and aggregation
• Experience integrating with large enterprise systems (OAuth/token refresh, rate limits, incremental sync)
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, ideally GCP (Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud Scheduler)
• Experience with REST APIs and/or tRPC, plus schema validation with Zod
• Comfort with event-driven/asynchronous processing patterns
• Production experience using LLMs, including function/tool calling and structured outputs
• Security-conscious mindset: input validation, access controls, and safe data handling

• Experience with staffing or recruiting technology

Location / Schedule

• Remote (100%) with flexible hours
• Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States
• Toro primarily operates on Eastern Time; periodic in-person team meetings with travel covered
