About the role

Role Overview

Backend Developer (Java / Spring Boot) to design, build, and maintain scalable services and APIs for Protean AI’s enterprise AI platform.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services using Java and Spring Boot
Build RESTful APIs and evolve microservices for simplicity, scalability, and reliability
Write clean, well-documented code; participate in code reviews and architecture discussions
(Bonus) Work with containerized deployments using Kubernetes and/or Docker

Requirements

4–7 years of hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot
Strong understanding of REST APIs and microservice architecture
Testing experience (e.g., Mockito, AssertJ)
CI/CD experience with Git
Comfortable with PostgreSQL and MongoDB, including ORM usage
Knowledge of Spring Security and (optionally) Spring Cloud Gateway
Strong debugging skills and a product mindset (focus on outcomes)

Nice to Have

Spring AI knowledge
Messaging systems: ActiveMQ or RabbitMQ
Hands-on experience with Kubernetes or Docker
