Backend Developer

Role Overview

Senior Backend Engineer at albo to design, build, and operate backend microservices powering core financial products (card issuing/authorization, credit lines, payments, and money movement).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend microservices in Go and Java/Quarkus within a domain-oriented architecture (customer, account, transactional, shared domains).
• Own services end-to-end: architecture, implementation, testing, deployment (QA/SBX/PROD), monitoring, and on-call ownership.
• Build event-driven and REST integrations across services using:
  • Pub/Sub
  • Service-to-service REST via a private-proxy mesh
• Ensure reliability and correctness for money-critical flows:
  • Idempotency, reconciliation, and failure handling (dead-letter/reprocess, avoid silent data loss)
• Model and evolve data across MongoDB and SingleStore/MemSQL, including consistency for dual-write flows.
• Ship via CI/CD (Jenkins shared pipelines) and containerized deploys to GKE/Kubernetes on GCP; manage config/secrets with GCP Secret Manager.
• Write clean, self-documenting, well-tested code; participate in code reviews and raise engineering standards.
• Collaborate with Product, Infra/Platform, and other squads to break down epics into incremental deliveries.
• Improve production reliability using observability (structured logging, metrics, tracing).
• Contribute to technical design docs, architecture diagrams, and shared engineering conventions/scaffolding.

Requirements

• 5+ years building and operating production backend services.
• Strong proficiency in Go or Java (Quarkus/Spring or similar preferred) and comfort working in a polyglot environment.
• Experience with microservices and distributed systems (REST APIs, async/event-driven messaging, versioned contracts).
• Hands-on experience with GCP, containers, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Comfort with SQL and NoSQL (MongoDB, SingleStore/MySQL/Postgres) and awareness of data consistency.
• Strong reliability knowledge: idempotency, retries, reconciliation, graceful degradation.
• Familiarity with fintech/payments concepts (card authorization, ledgers, transfers, credit) is a plus.
