About the role

Role Overview

You will join a hybrid agile team supporting a leading geospatial technology company serving critical U.S. Government operations. The role focuses on designing, developing, and scaling a robust backend data platform that underpins intelligence community AI initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services and platform components for modern data architecture.
  • Build integrations with internal/external data sources via APIs and event streams.
  • Collaborate with data engineering, analytics, and product teams to define scalable data models.
  • Improve reliability, observability, and performance of data workflows and backend systems.
  • Apply best practices for testing, monitoring, logging, and deployment.
  • Participate in architecture decisions for data storage, orchestration, metadata management, and access patterns.
  • Uphold engineering standards for code quality, documentation, CI/CD, and operations.
  • Troubleshoot and debug production issues to maintain high availability and performance.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices.

Requirements

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with CI Polygraph (mandatory).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering, with backend development focus.
  • Strong Python proficiency.
  • Hands-on experience building backend systems, APIs, or distributed services in production.
  • Knowledge of PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch.
  • Familiarity with AWS, especially S3 and RDS.
  • Understanding of core engineering practices: testing, version control, CI/CD, and system design.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills; able to work within a small technical team.
