Backend/API Engineer, Money as a Service

Role Overview

Backend/API Engineer focused on Money as a Service (MaaS). You will build and extend platforms for global balance management and a funds accessibility platform used by enterprises and SMBs, with an emphasis on creating ergonomic APIs.

Responsibilities

• Scope, design, build, and maintain APIs, services, and large-scale systems handling billions of money movement requests
• Debug and resolve production issues across services and multiple layers of the stack
• Mentor engineers to support their growth
• Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver large-scale features
• Improve internal engineering standards, tooling, and processes
• Work effectively in a distributed and hybrid environment with strong communication

Requirements

• 2–12+ years of industry software engineering experience (excluding internships/co-ops)
• Strong coding skills in at least one programming language (language-agnostic)
• Strong collaboration skills across workstreams
• Ability to thrive with high autonomy and responsibility; an “entrepreneurial” mindset
• Interest in being a generalist across different technologies and stacks to delight internal and external users

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with large-scale financial tracking systems
• Practical knowledge of cloud-based services and related technologies (e.g., gRPC, GraphQL, Docker/Kubernetes, AWS)

Work Location / Hybrid Policy

• Available in an office or remote location (requires being 35+ miles / 56+ km from a Stripe office)
• Office-based employees are expected to spend at least 50% of time in their local office each month
