Role Overview

Backend / API Engineer, Billing at Stripe’s Revenue and Financial Automation (RFA) team. You’ll design and build products that help users model and operate their businesses more efficiently, with a focus on billing and revenue systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver the next generation of Stripe billing-related products for long-term growth
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners (infrastructure, security, design, operations) to ship mission-critical features
• Write, test, and ship high-quality code across services and multiple layers of the stack
• Debug and resolve critical production issues across distributed systems
• Mentor engineers and support team growth
• Work with stakeholders and customers using a collaborative, users-first approach

Requirements

• 2–12+ years of backend software development experience
• Ability to write high-quality code in languages such as Go, Java, or C/C++
• Hands-on experience building or contributing to large-scale distributed systems
• Strong collaboration skills across workstreams
• Ability to thrive with autonomy, ownership, and an entrepreneurial mindset

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with event-driven architectures
• Experience with subscription management, usage-based billing, or financial reporting systems
• Interest in financial infrastructure and revenue operations
• Direct leadership and mentorship experience

Work Location / Remote Policy

• Hybrid or remote: remote allowed from 35+ miles (56+ km) from a Stripe office
• Office expectation (if assigned): at least 50% of time in the local office/month
