Back-end Software Engineer

Role Overview

Join Affirm as a Back-end Software Engineer on the Repayment Scheduling engineering team. As one of the first engineers on the team, you’ll play a major role in building core infrastructure that supports repayment scheduling for millions of users.

Key Missions

• Design, develop, and implement backend systems for repayment scheduling.
• Collaborate with the team to deliver project goals, balancing speed and quality.
• Participate in on-call rotation and help maintain systems to ensure availability and performance.

Profile / Requirements

• Familiar with distributed systems concepts and technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Can turn a business problem into a multi-component solution by writing clear, well-tested, extensible code.
• Demonstrates ownership of growth and proactively seeks feedback.
• Comfortable working in a large codebase, debugging, and providing feedback via code reviews.
• Experience (work or internship) designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale; experienced with Python or Kotlin.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.

Nice-to-haves

• Prior experience with backend systems specifically related to scheduling, payments, or financial infrastructure (implied by team domain).
