Back End Engineer

Role Overview

Oddball is hiring a Backend Engineer for its CMS team. You’ll build and maintain the APIs and backend services that power healthcare marketplace tools used by millions of Americans (including third-party enrollment platforms).

Responsibilities

• Develop, enhance, and maintain backend services and APIs in Go for healthcare marketplace features.
• Build and maintain ETL pipelines in Python to clean, transform, and move data across the healthcare ecosystem.
• Design and build REST APIs backed by PostgreSQL, with an emphasis on reliability and backward compatibility.
• Use AWS services (e.g., S3, Lambda, Step Functions, Glue) to support data processing and pipeline workflows.
• Write clean, well-tested, secure code with focus on performance and maintainability.
• Support ongoing operations and maintenance of existing products alongside new feature development.
• Participate in code reviews and help uphold engineering standards.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience building backend services in Go (Golang).
• Experience using Python for data cleaning, manipulation, and ETL workflows.
• Proficiency with PostgreSQL (or similar relational databases) and SQL.
• Experience designing/building REST APIs in production.
• Experience with AWS services such as S3, Lambda, Step Functions, or Glue.
• Ability to thrive in a remote, collaborative Agile environment and work closely with cross-functional teams.
• Clear communication (e.g., in code reviews and planning sessions).

Nice to Haves

• Familiarity with Pandas and/or PySpark.
• Familiarity with FHIR or healthcare interoperability standards.
• Familiarity with federal security and compliance requirements.

Location / Work Authorization

• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
• Some roles may require U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain a federal background investigation and/or security clearance.

Compensation & Benefits

• Fully remote.
• Wage range (US): $100,000 – $135,000.
