About the role

Role Overview

Back End Developer for a remote (US) consumer startup. You will own core discovery services, especially those related to maps, location surfaces, and directory search.

Responsibilities

Own key components of core discovery services (maps, location surfaces, directory search).
Collaborate with UX designers, data scientists, and product teams to deliver user-centered solutions.
Improve user experiences using feedback loops and data-driven methodologies.
Drive work across the full SDLC using Agile practices and CI/CD best practices.

Requirements

6+ years of modern software development with a track record of scalable, maintainable systems.
Strong system design and architecture skills.
Production experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
Primary experience with location-based systems and geospatial data, including geo indexing, proximity queries, and mapping surfaces.

Nice-to-Haves

Experience building search systems (relevance, ranking) and Elasticsearch or similar for consumer products.
Strong data fundamentals with PostgreSQL and MongoDB (indexing and query performance).
Startup/fast-moving environment experience.
Enthusiasm for AI tools and ability to adopt emerging best practices quickly.
