About the role

Role Overview

Back End Developer for a remote (US) consumer startup. You will own core discovery services, especially those related to maps, location surfaces, and directory search.

Responsibilities

  • Own key components of core discovery services (maps, location surfaces, directory search).
  • Collaborate with UX designers, data scientists, and product teams to deliver user-centered solutions.
  • Improve user experiences using feedback loops and data-driven methodologies.
  • Drive work across the full SDLC using Agile practices and CI/CD best practices.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of modern software development with a track record of scalable, maintainable systems.
  • Strong system design and architecture skills.
  • Production experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
  • Primary experience with location-based systems and geospatial data, including geo indexing, proximity queries, and mapping surfaces.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience building search systems (relevance, ranking) and Elasticsearch or similar for consumer products.
  • Strong data fundamentals with PostgreSQL and MongoDB (indexing and query performance).
  • Startup/fast-moving environment experience.
  • Enthusiasm for AI tools and ability to adopt emerging best practices quickly.
