Azure Data Engineer - Healthcare

Role Overview

Azure Data Engineer - Healthcare at Fractal (Remote, United States). You will design and implement scalable, secure, and compliant healthcare data platforms on Microsoft Azure, combining Azure data engineering with healthcare domain expertise and data quality/governance frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Azure data architecture: Design enterprise-scale healthcare data platforms on Azure; define end-to-end architecture for ingestion, transformation, storage, governance, and analytics.
• Modernization/migration: Lead modernization and migration of legacy healthcare data systems to Azure.
• Security/compliance: Ensure solutions align with healthcare compliance and governance standards.
• Data engineering & Databricks:
  • Design and implement large-scale ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Build batch and real-time processing with Azure Databricks.
  • Create ingestion frameworks for structured and unstructured healthcare data.
  • Implement Lakehouse/Data Lake patterns using Azure services.
  • Optimize performance and scalability of Azure data platforms.
• Data quality & governance:
  • Define and implement enterprise Data Quality (DQ) frameworks and controls (completeness, consistency, accuracy, timeliness, reconciliation).
  • Build automated validation/monitoring, data lineage, metadata management, and governance practices.
  • Partner with governance teams to improve data reliability and trust.
• Healthcare domain:
  • Work with clinical/operational/analytical stakeholders on healthcare data requirements.
  • Support integrations involving EMR/EHR, claims, patient/provider, and operational data.
  • Support healthcare analytics, reporting, and interoperability initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and privacy standards.
• Stakeholder management:
  • Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Lead architecture reviews, client discussions, and technical workshops.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineering teams.

Required Skills & Experience

• Azure: Hands-on expertise with Azure Data Factory (ADF), Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Azure SQL Database, Azure Functions, Azure DevOps, Azure Monitor, and Azure Purview.
• Data engineering: Strong SQL and Python/PySpark skills; experience building enterprise ETL/ELT pipelines; understanding of data modeling and distributed data processing.
• Experience with Delta Lake (mentioned) and large-scale data engineering.
