About the role
Role Overview
AWS Cloud Architect/Engineer consultant for a leading healthcare organization in Maryland. Fully remote, part-time (~122 hours over 3 months, with potential extension). You will step in as an SME to rapidly rebuild and enhance an AWS-hosted voice-based chatbot platform used in a cancer patient research study.
Responsibilities
- Rebuild and document the existing AWS-based chatbot infrastructure
- Create and maintain AWS architecture diagrams and technical documentation for internal teams
- Reconnect and recreate integrations between AWS services, LLM functionality, and external APIs
- Implement and secure OAuth 2.0 authentication and user authentication protocols to support patient privacy/de-identification requirements
- Configure and enhance AWS infrastructure, including:
- AWS Lambda, API Gateway, EC2, load balancing
- IAM roles, security groups, and secure networking
- S3 storage
- Conduct testing and validation across authentication, voice interactions, data storage/retrieval, and backup procedures
- Ensure the environment is secure, scalable, and reliable
- Collaborate with data science and clinical teams (chatbot design not required)
- Provide architecture guidance, knowledge transfer, and best practices
Requirements (Must-Haves)
- Strong AWS Cloud Architecture & Engineering experience
- Hands-on experience with AWS Lambda, API Gateway, EC2, and S3
- Experience building and integrating secure APIs and service-to-service communication
- Proven experience implementing OAuth 2.0 authentication frameworks
- Experience rebuilding, documenting, and diagramming cloud architectures
- AWS security architecture experience (IAM roles, security groups, secure networking)
- Ability to work independently as an SME to stand up environments quickly
- Experience with Alexa Skills / voice-based applications
Nice-to-Haves / Plusses
- Exposure to LLM-integrated or AI-driven applications
- Background in healthcare or clinical research environments
- Familiarity with REDCap integrations/data pipelines
- Experience with AWS IAM/identity management (e.g., Cognito)
- Experience with Power BI dashboards and healthcare analytics/reporting
