Role Overview

Automation QA Engineer (Lead) at AlgaeCal. You’ll build and scale automated testing systems to improve the quality, stability, and reliability of a React-based eCommerce storefront and related internal middleware.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain test architecture that is clean, scalable, and easy for other developers to follow
Create automation that catches bugs before release, with a focus on reducing flaky tests
Lead QA efforts by mentoring/coaching other QA developers and raising the team’s technical bar
Troubleshoot issues relentlessly and improve debuggability, reporting, and defect prevention
Improve CI/CD integration and ensure automation frameworks reliably gate releases

Requirements

5+ years of QA development experience with real examples of automated testing strategies you built/maintained/improved/scaled
2+ years leadership, mentorship, or coaching experience
Strong command of JavaScript and TypeScript
Hands-on experience with automated testing frameworks such as Cypress and/or Playwright
Experience architecting/optimizing/scaling automated testing frameworks for frontend storefront environments
eCommerce experience (lots of it) is required

Nice-to-haves

Demonstrated success improving flaky test suites (faster, cleaner, more reliable)
Strong involvement in quality engineering systems that support better release outcomes (fewer production defects, better reporting)
