Associate General Counsel (Litigation)

Role overview

Associate General Counsel (Litigation) at Motive (full remote, New York, US). You will lead the company’s litigation strategy, manage and develop the litigation function, and partner with internal stakeholders and outside counsel.

Key missions

• Develop and execute Motive’s litigation strategy, including identifying and pursuing claims and counterclaims.
• Manage and grow the litigation team by shaping structure, priorities, and operating model.
• Serve as a senior litigation leader across the company, working closely with internal stakeholders and outside counsel.
• Oversee outside counsel selection and litigation budget management.

Responsibilities (full litigation lifecycle)

• Lead strategy across phases including:
  • Pre-suit assessment
  • TRO / preliminary injunction practice
  • Pleadings, discovery, motion practice
  • Trial, settlement, and appeal
• Handle complex disputes including IP, trade secrets, marketing issues, Lanham Act, and competitor-related disputes.
• Provide senior leadership on litigation for a public company, including financial reporting, audit, and governance-related litigation.

Requirements

• US-licensed attorney.
• 10+ years of relevant litigation experience, including significant time at a top-tier litigation firm.
• Significant trial experience, including dispositive motions and witness examination/argument.
• Strong judgment and executive presence; ability to influence stakeholders across the business.
• Experience managing outside counsel and litigation budgets, plus cross-functional internal collaboration.
• Demonstrated wins in complex IP/trade secret and related disputes.
