About the role

Join Givebutter, a payments-enabled fundraising platform, as an Associate General Counsel. In this hands-on role, you will lead the in-house legal function, focusing on corporate governance, intellectual property, risk management, and employment law. You will report to the Chief Financial Officer and build a lean legal team that enables Givebutter to grow while managing risk. Your responsibilities will include advising on legal issues, building trusted relationships across teams, managing intellectual property, overseeing corporate governance, and advising on employment law matters. You will also monitor legislative and regulatory developments, assess enterprise legal risk, and manage outside counsel engagements. Build a lean legal team that enables Givebutter to move fast without taking on risks it does not understand.. Communicate clearly and confidently with executives and the Board, turning complex legal issues into guidance people can act on. So to the women and nonbinary folks out there feeling unsure if you're a perfect fit, we strongly encourage you to apply! - 8–12 years of legal experience, with a meaningful combination of top-tier law firm training and in-house experience at a technology or fintech company - Experience managing commercial insurance programs and advising on enterprise risk - J.D. from an accredited law school - Ability to operate independently with high autonomy in a fast-paced, high-growth environment - Demonstrated experience navigating complex, differing state-by-state regulations and translating them into practical business guidance and compliance processes - Excellent written and verbal communication; translates complex legal issues into plain language for non-legal stakeholders - Active bar membership in good standing in your state of residence and/or California, New York, or Texas - Demonstrated expertise in corporate governance, intellectual property management, and employment law - Fluency with AI tools in a professional context; uses AI to improve productivity and has informed opinions about responsible deployment - Strong executive presence; proven ability to advise senior leadership and boards with clarity, confidence, and sound judgment
