Role Overview
Assistant Director, People & Culture Generalist (Remote) will support a broad range of People & Culture functions, acting as a focal point for compensation, employee relations, internal communications/operations, employee engagement, and backup recruitment coordination.
Responsibilities
Compensation (30%)
- Serve as the P&C focal point for compensation requests (new hire offers, promotions, movement-in-range adjustments, transfers).
- Review and approve requests against UUSA salary structure and established guidelines.
- Manage logistics for the annual compensation cycle in partnership with Finance and P&C leadership.
- Maintain and apply salary structures/bands, including routine market data review and benchmarking.
- Prepare and route letters for promotions, salary increases, and transfers; ensure role-change tickets are submitted and processed timely.
- Partner with Assistant Director, P&C Operations to keep job descriptions updated and aligned with the salary structure.
Employee Relations (30%)
- Be the day-to-day point of contact for employee relations matters (workplace concerns, conflict resolution, policy interpretation).
- Lead investigation, resolution, and documentation; escalate to P&C leadership and partner with Legal as needed.
- Escalate issues involving significant legal or reputational risk.
- Maintain accurate, confidential documentation; identify trends/systemic issues and recommend solutions.
- Advise managers on performance management and disciplinary action in partnership with P&C leadership.
P&C / Operations & UUSA Internal Communications (20%)
- Lead internal communications for P&C and Operations (policy updates, benefits reminders, organization-wide announcements).
- Represent P&C on the Internal Communications Committee, coordinating divisional channels via Slack.
- Manage a cross-department communications calendar to ensure consistent cadence and messaging.
- Partner with Marketing & Communications to align internal messaging with brand voice and identity.
- Maintain P&C content on internal platforms and keep it current.
- Manage a rolling calendar of P&C communications, including policy/benefits updates and recognition/observance dates.
- Support change management through internal communications using an ADKAR approach.
Employee Engagement (15%)
- Execute the employee engagement strategy: surveys, recognition programs, and engagement programming (e.g., Intentional Engagement Days).
- Translate engagement survey data into actionable follow-up with leadership.
- Lead culture-building initiatives and organization-wide events in partnership with cross-functional teams (virtual, themed, location-specific), and support retreat planning.
Backup Recruitment Coordination (5%)
- Act as secondary backup for recruitment communications during peak hiring or absence of the Assistant Director, P&C Operations.
- Maintain working knowledge of recruitment systems/workflows to avoid disruption to the candidate experience.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 6–8 years of progressive experience in relevant areas (HR/People & Culture).
- Relevant HR certification preferred (e.g., SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR).
