Assistant Controller (Remote, US)

Role Overview

Hopper is hiring an Assistant Controller to partner with the Global Corporate Controller. This is a builder/automation-first role focused on automating the close, building accounting data infrastructure between the warehouse and NetSuite, and designing reporting that bridges GAAP and management figures.

Responsibilities

• Technical accounting research and memo drafting across topics including:
  • ASC 470 (convertible notes, warrants)
  • ASC 606, ASC 842, and SBC
  • New product accounting and complex equity/financing transactions
• External audit management across all entities; serve as the primary external auditor liaison
• Month-end close oversight: ensure quality and GAAP compliance, identify gaps/exceptions, and hold accounting operations to a high standard
• Internal controls & SOX readiness: design/implement the controls framework and drive SOX readiness
• Consolidation and compliance:
  • Multi-entity, multi-currency consolidation
  • Intercompany reconciliations
  • Transfer pricing compliance
• Data & automation:
  • Map warehouse → NetSuite data flows; identify gaps and collaborate with Engineering
  • Build and automate reconciliation framework bridging management and GAAP figures
  • Deploy AI tools to eliminate manual work
• Oversee accounting, AP, AR, and cash operations

Requirements

• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience; readiness to operate at a director level
• Active CPA
• Public company experience at scale
• Proven track record leading audits as the primary liaison (not just preparing)
• Hands-on technical accounting memo drafting experience across complex topics
• SOX and internal controls design experience
• Systems/automation ownership (process building, not just maintenance)
• Automation-first mindset with genuine AI fluency
• SQL/data querying skills (or strong willingness to learn to investigate data issues independently)

Nice to Have

• NetSuite experience (configuration, data architecture, close automation)
• Fintech / marketplace / travel industry background
• Pre-IPO or IPO readiness experience
• Travel/fintech/marketplace exposure
