Assistant Controller (Remote, US)

Role overview

Hopper is hiring an Assistant Controller (remote within the US) to partner with the Global Corporate Controller at a key growth moment. This is a builder role focused on automating the month-end close, building the data infrastructure from the warehouse to NetSuite, and designing reporting that reconciles GAAP with management figures.

Responsibilities

• Technical accounting: research and draft memos across ASC topics including ASC 470, ASC 606, ASC 842, SBC, and complex equity/financing transactions (e.g., convertible notes, warrants).
• Audit ownership: lead end-to-end external audit management across all entities and serve as the primary liaison to external auditors.
• Close & controls:
  • Oversee month-end close quality, GAAP compliance, and exception resolution.
  • Design and implement internal controls framework and drive SOX readiness.
• Consolidation & reconciliation: manage multi-entity, multi-currency consolidation, intercompany reconciliations, and transfer pricing compliance.
• Systems & automation:
  • Map warehouse-to-NetSuite data flows, identify gaps, and collaborate with Engineering to automate the close.
  • Build and automate reconciliation frameworks bridging management and GAAP.
  • Deploy AI tools to eliminate manual accounting work.
• Operations leadership: oversee Accounting, AP, AR, and cash operations teams.

Requirements

• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience; demonstrated ability to operate at a director level.
• Active CPA designation.
• Public company experience at scale.
• Proven experience leading audits as the primary liaison.
• Hands-on technical accounting memo drafting experience across complex ASC topics.
• SOX and internal controls design experience.
• Strong systems/automation ownership mindset.
• Automation-first approach with AI fluency.
• SQL/data querying skills (or willingness to learn) to investigate data issues independently.
• NetSuite experience (configuration, data architecture, or close automation) is a plus.
