Assistant Controller (Remote, US)

Role Overview

Hopper is hiring an Assistant Controller (remote, US) to help the Global Corporate Controller automate the close and build the accounting data infrastructure. This is a high-independence “builder” role focused on connecting the warehouse to NetSuite, bridging GAAP and management reporting, and leading audit and technical accounting.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Own technical accounting research and memo drafting across complex topics (e.g., ASC 470, ASC 606, ASC 842, SBC, new product accounting, equity/financing transactions).
• Lead end-to-end external audit management across all entities, serving as the primary liaison with auditors.
• Design internal controls and drive SOX readiness.
• Oversee month-end close quality and GAAP compliance; identify gaps/exceptions and hold accounting operations to a high standard.
• Manage multi-entity, multi-currency consolidation, intercompany reconciliations, and transfer pricing compliance.
• Map data flows from the warehouse into NetSuite; partner with Engineering to automate the close.
• Build and automate the reconciliation framework bridging management and GAAP figures.
• Deploy AI tools across the accounting function to eliminate manual work.
• Oversee accounting, AP, AR, and cash operations teams.

Requirements

• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience; ability to operate at a director level.
• Active CPA designation.
• Public company experience and familiarity with scaled, mature finance functions.
• Demonstrated ability to lead audits as the primary auditor liaison.
• Strong hands-on background in technical accounting memo drafting.
• Experience with SOX and internal controls design.
• Systems and automation ownership (built processes, not just maintained them).
• Automation-first mindset with genuine AI fluency.
• SQL/data querying skills (or strong willingness to learn) to investigate data issues independently.

Nice to Have

• NetSuite experience (configuration, data architecture, or close automation).
• Fintech/marketplace/travel industry experience.
• Pre-IPO or IPO readiness experience.
