Applied Engineer | Remote

Role Overview

Open Source Applied Engineer (Hourly contract, remote) working 10–40 hours/week. You will design and run evaluations for coding tasks across multiple programming languages and help research teams optimize systems based on performance findings.

Responsibilities

• Design and oversee evaluations for coding tasks across multiple programming languages
• Develop robust test cases to assess system performance in diverse engineering scenarios
• Analyze system behavior on real-world use cases to identify strengths and improvement opportunities
• Communicate evaluation results clearly to research teams to support optimization
• Contribute expertise to improve scalability, performance, and code quality

Requirements

• Strong track record contributing to open-source projects
• Proficiency in one or more languages: Python, Java, C, JavaScript, or TypeScript
• Familiarity with widely used libraries, frameworks, and development tools
• Understanding of software architecture, performance tuning, and scalable design patterns
• Experience with Git, CI/CD, and open-source collaboration workflows
• Ability to work independently in distributed, asynchronous teams
