Applied AI Engineer

Role overview

Join Shopware as an Applied AI Engineer in the Agentic Commerce Lab, a startup-like team exploring the future of commerce with agentic systems. You’ll own projects end-to-end, work across the full stack, and continuously experiment with new AI models and techniques.

Responsibilities

• Take ideas from inception to production, with full end-to-end ownership of your work
• Experiment weekly with new AI models, techniques, and architectural patterns; share learnings with the team
• Build robust AI systems with:
  • graceful degradation
  • monitoring
  • human-in-the-loop fallbacks to improve reliability

Requirements / profile

• Product mindset: focus on outcomes for merchants, shoppers, and developers
• Infrastructure awareness: understand cloud costs, latency budgets, and scaling
• Bias to action: prefer prototyping and experimenting over extensive discussion
• Collaborative spirit: learn from and co-build with peers inside and outside Shopware
• Learn-by-building: spin up prototypes quickly, then document findings
• Strong desire to continuously learn and stay on the bleeding edge of AI

Nice-to-have signals (highlighted)

• Vibe-code fluency: hands-on experience with modern AI tooling (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Replit, v0, Lovable) and ability to create clickable demos quickly
• Product engineer mindset: merchant outcomes over purely elegant technical solutions
• Self-starter in ambiguity: thrive without a detailed map
• AI native: leverage AI to accelerate work and share learnings
• AI engineering fundamentals:

  • retrieval-based grounding and knowledge integration for production LLM systems
