About the role
Role overview
Applied AI Engineer (Europe) at Amigo—a launchpad role where you ship production AI agents end-to-end. You will write production code, shape product decisions, and work directly with customers as agents are deployed.
Within 6–12 months, the role can transition into one of four paths:
- Applied AI: agent architecture, verification frameworks, and the hardest customer problems
- Product Management: roadmap, discovery, and shaping what gets built
- Sales Engineering: pre-sales, technical storytelling, and enterprise deal support
- Software Engineering: platform, infrastructure, and core systems
Responsibilities
- Implement context graphs enabling agents to choose the right reasoning mode based on complexity (lookup, pattern recognition, exploration)
- Build and optimize agent configurations (static personas, dynamic behaviors, functional memory)
- Design Operational Patient Domains (OPDs) with explicit inclusions, exclusions, capabilities, and escalation rules
- Create verification loops and simulation-based testing to validate agent performance against customer KPIs
- Write Python code for tool integrations and API orchestration in customer environments
- Build evaluation suites that gate deployments using customer-specific success metrics
- Collaborate with domain experts via structured interviews to capture reasoning patterns and clinical protocols
- Support technical power users with git-based workflows for rapid iteration
- Perform adversarial testing to identify and prevent failure modes
- Ensure audit-ready provenance with version pinning and evidence links
- Systematize implementation patterns across different problem domains
Requirements
- 2+ years of production software engineering experience
- Strong Python skills, including proper typing, and building reliable systems integrating with external APIs (schema design, retry strategies, error propagation)
- Experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, and AI platform development
- Ability to implement systems with strict reliability requirements
- Understanding of testing and verification methodologies
- Experience delivering technical solutions with customers/stakeholders
- Familiarity with git workflows and collaborative development
- Strong debugging and problem-solving for complex systems
- Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences
Nice to have
- Experience in regulated industries (healthcare, finance, legal)
- Background with simulation, synthetic data, or evaluation frameworks
- Familiarity with distributed systems and service-oriented architectures
