About the role
Role overview
Join BCBST’s Electronic Data & Interoperability team as an Applications Developer. This is a fully remote role where you’ll work with both experienced engineers and early-career peers to analyze, develop, enhance, and support applications using Java and SQL, with exposure to healthcare technology and data standards.
On-call rotation: participates twice per year.
Interview location requirement: final interviews at BCBST headquarters in Chattanooga, TN will be required.
Responsibilities
- Define system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to design, develop, modify, or integrate information systems
- Develop and modify application systems and procedures to optimize capacity, operating time, response time, and output requirements
- Design, code, test, debug, and document programs, subroutines, and scripts
- Maintain relevant skills across required software languages, databases, platforms, operating systems, utilities, and networks
- Respond to system failures and performance issues to reduce downtime and prevent recurrence
- Provide end-user presentations and support to maximize use of developed systems (as needed)
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or related field) or equivalent work experience
- Java coding experience
- SQL Server familiarity
- Willingness to learn and grow

- Interest in leveraging approved AI tools for efficiency and innovation
