About the role
Role overview
Entry-level Application Developer (remote, full-time) focused on building solutions on the Microsoft Power Platform for child welfare clients. You’ll work with senior engineers and implementation leads from day one, then expand into Azure-based development for a well-rounded solution development background.
What you’ll do
Power Platform Development
- Build and extend Power Apps (canvas and model-driven), Power Automate flows, and Dataverse solutions
- Create Power BI reports and dashboards for agency staff
- Develop code-first Power Platform apps (custom web development with Power Platform hosting/data/governance)
- Follow ALM practices (solutions, environments, pipelines)
Azure Development
- Develop Azure Functions and Container Apps (primarily in Python) for integrations and processing
- Use Application Insights and Datadog for logging/monitoring
Data Development
- Write SQL and support data flows into/out of Dataverse
- Assist the data team with integrations
Client Engagement & Delivery
- Present work to client stakeholders and explain what was built and why
- Help scope features and estimate work with senior team members
- Participate in agile ceremonies with internal teams and clients
Responsible and Strategic Use of AI
- Use AI tools deliberately for development acceleration (documentation, testing, research)
- Maintain accountability for shipped work
- Avoid exposing sensitive client/case data to unapproved tools; keep a human in the loop for child/family-impacting decisions
Requirements
- Entry-level role: hiring for aptitude, curiosity, and fundamentals
- Ability to build working solutions on Microsoft Power Platform (or strong fundamentals to learn quickly)
- Can write and reason about code in Python
- Clear, professional communication with clients and teammates; comfortable presenting your work
- Takes feedback well, asks good questions, learns quickly in a small agile team
- Handles sensitive subject matter with professionalism and discretion
- Uses AI tools thoughtfully and understands their limits
- Preferred: college degree in CS/engineering/MIS or related field (or equivalent military/job experience)
Nice to have
- Working knowledge of SQL
- Knowledge of JavaScript, C#, Java, or Scala
- Exposure to Dataverse, Azure DevOps, or CI/CD pipelines
- Familiarity with Snowflake or Microsoft Fabric (or other data platforms)
- Interest in child welfare, human services, or public-sector work
