Application Developer

Role Overview

Soft Tech Consulting is seeking a self-directed Application Developer to join a collaborative team supporting the delivery of project deliverables. The role requires clear communication of project status across all levels of staff.

Work location: Washington, DC area with remote work options for candidates who can demonstrate effectiveness to work remotely.

Responsibilities

• Code portions of complex computer applications to meet customer requirements.
• Create application documentation, including block diagrams and logic flow charts.
• Translate design specifications into program instructions.
• Prepare test data and conduct testing.
• Provide recommendations on technical problems with limited guidance.

Requirements

• High school diploma plus specialized technical knowledge/training.
• 3+ years of experience writing computer software.
• Experience assessing the feasibility of software technology alternatives.
• Hands-on experience with at least two major technologies from the provided list, plus experience/knowledge of about 10% of the remaining technologies.
• Experience with one or more programming languages/frameworks (examples provided include Java/C#/C++, .NET, Spring, Struts, Hibernate, etc.).
• Experience with at least one scripting language (e.g., Bash, Perl, PowerShell).
• Experience with a web scripting language such as JavaScript or TypeScript.
• Experience with unit testing and functional testing (specifying test cases, executing, and documenting results).
• Experience with at least one relational database (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
• Experience with at least one application server (e.g., WebLogic, JBoss, Tomcat, IIS).
• Experience with at least one development methodology.
• Experience gathering requirements from users and supporting acceptance testing.
• Experience with system testing (planning, executing, creating test data, documenting results).
• Experience with change/issue tracking tools (e.g., Jira, Redmine, VersionOne).

Clearance / Eligibility

• 100% remote is indicated, but candidates must be able to obtain Public Trust.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident (with permanent residents needing to have been in the U.S. for at least 3 consecutive years).

Nice-to-haves (from provided environment list)

Familiarity with additional items from the environment list such as Node.js, AWS services (e.g., Lambda, Aurora/PostgreSQL), API development, SOLR, Selenium, Angular/React-related UI (Angular listed), Jenkins, CI/CD tooling, and test frameworks like JUnit/Mockito.
