About the role

Role overview

The Application Developer/Designer is part of FSU’s ITS custom development team, building and maintaining primarily .NET web applications for colleges and departments across the university. The position supports university business applications by gathering requirements, analyzing needs, designing solutions, and delivering code, testing, and deployments.

Responsibilities

  • Review, analyze, and modify existing programming systems to support university and departmental business applications
  • Gather requirements from users and stakeholders and translate them into specifications
  • Design, analyze, develop, deploy, install, and support applications that improve productivity for FSU departments
  • Encode/develop, test, debug, and install applications
  • Serve as a primary consultant for the Student Information Systems group regarding the use of IT for student systems
  • Work with business analysis and project management teams to establish project plans and provide technical analysis of proposed solutions
  • Analyze usage trends and develop standards and guidelines
  • Learn and evaluate new technologies to improve delivery of ITS services
  • Identify current and future needs so applications support departmental missions
  • Provide additional support as needed (e.g., assisting with user acceptance testing)
  • Perform work in compliance with ITS processes for support requests, work orders, project management, change management, and incident management

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field and 2 years of experience
    • Or, a combination of education and experience totaling 6 years (including a high school diploma equivalent)

Preferred qualifications

  • Familiarity with .NET web development and web technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Experience with Oracle database
  • Plus: familiarity with Salesforce, Git, IIS, and basic Windows Server administration
