About the role
Application Architect
Design and lead modernization efforts for enterprise applications, combining cloud-native patterns with full-stack expertise.
Responsibilities
- Lead large-scale modernization programs across full-stack enterprise applications.
- Architect cloud-native systems using PaaS and serverless approaches.
- Apply advanced design patterns including microservices, EDA, and API-first architectures.
- Guide infrastructure and deployment practices using containers and Kubernetes.
- Drive simplification by reducing/deleting legacy modules and consolidating systems.
- Ensure systems are operationally friendly through observability and troubleshootability.
- Bring knowledge of legacy systems to support refactoring strategies (e.g., ESB and older RDBMS).
Requirements
- Proven experience in Software/Enterprise Architecture and leading modernization at scale.
- Full-stack depth in one or more: Java (Spring Boot), Node.js, or Go, plus modern frontend frameworks (React/Vue).
- Hands-on cloud expertise with AWS, Azure, or GCP (PaaS/serverless).
- Strong patterns knowledge: Microservices, Event-Driven Architecture (EDA), Domain-Driven Design (DDD), API-First.
- Infrastructure skills: Terraform or Pulumi, Docker, Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with legacy technologies/patterns: COBOL, SOAP, Oracle/DB2, and Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) patterns.
Nice-to-haves
- “Architect-engineer” mindset: build for long-term scale (e.g., 100x traffic spikes) and focus on operational empathy.
Location
- Berkeley Heights, NJ / Alpharetta, GA — 5 days onsite per week.
