Appian Business Analyst

Role Overview

Groundswell is seeking an Appian Business Analyst to partner with Appian product teams and help generate and refine requirements for Appian applications. The role focuses on discovery, requirement management, modeling, user engagement insights, and delivery planning.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Product Dev Managers to define MVPs and supporting release plans.
• Perform requirement discovery, including:
  • Data modeling
  • Process improvement/reengineering analysis
  • Process design and BPM application models
  • User interface design
  • Data interface requirement discovery
• Lead discovery workshops with customer stakeholders to collect and document solution requirements.
• Collaborate with Product Dev Managers and technology stakeholders (e.g., Systems Architects) on new or enhanced product requirements and functionality.
• Support prioritization of feature enablers within the product roadmap.
• Deliver and maintain user engagement analytics to characterize users and support case studies.
• Write user stories with clear acceptance criteria for developers and QA.
• Work continuously with teams to provide guidance on work items, enablers, and stories.
• Refine product requirements using input from user engagements, sprint showcases, and demos.
• Help define sprint plans aligned to product vision and roadmap priorities.
• Prepare estimates for user stories in the product backlog.
• Perform formal review and acceptance of implemented user stories.
• Identify, track, and manage risks, escalating when necessary.
• Identify process improvement opportunities and recommend solutions.
• Design and implement complex data models based on customer application needs.
• Use tools including TFS, Jira, and GitHub for project management responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, IT, or related field.
• 5+ years of business analysis experience refining requirements for information systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication across organizational levels.
• Detail-oriented; experience supporting multiple products concurrently.
• Experience with process-based documentation methods including:
  • Use cases
  • Agile user stories
  • Process modeling
• Must be able to work East Coast hours as needed.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret-level security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ year of hands-on Appian solution implementation experience.
