API Principal Architect

Role Overview

Join SonicWall as an API Principal Architect (full remote). You will own and evolve the API that powers the control plane of the Zero Trust platform, shaping its long-term technical direction while staying hands-on.

Key Missions

• Treat the API as a product: define the technical direction and long-term evolution strategy.
• Define scalability strategy and plan for long-term growth.
• Design and build high-performance, secure, production-quality Go services.
• Architect distributed systems supporting the control plane.
• Lead engineering quality by driving code reviews and raising the bar across the team.
• Mentor and collaborate with a distributed offshore engineering team across time zones.

Requirements

• Strong backend engineering background and proven API ownership experience.
• Deep expertise in Go (Golang) with significant production experience.
• Strong understanding of API security, including authentication and secure coding principles.
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals such as TCP/IP and DNS.
• Proven experience designing scalable distributed systems.
• Strong communication skills and pragmatic decision-making.
• Ability to work across time zones and mentor remote engineers.

Nice to Have

• Experience building and scaling cloud-delivered networking services.
• Experience in SaaS environments and cloud-native architectures.
• Advanced education: Master’s (8+ years) or PhD (6+ years), or equivalent practical experience.

Education / Experience

• 12–15 years of backend engineering experience with strong API ownership; equivalent education/work combinations are acceptable.
