API Developer Intern (Remote Opportunity)

Role overview

Remote API Developer Intern to support a federal government project. This internship is intended for students or recent graduates in Computer Science or related fields, providing hands-on experience with modern REST API development and exposure to healthcare IT systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, code, test, and debug RESTful APIs using modern programming practices
• Collaborate with senior developers and technical teams on software development initiatives
• Learn and work with Git, version control, JSON, and API testing tools
• Assist with code documentation and maintaining version control processes
• Support Agile development practices (participate in sprint planning and reviews)
• Troubleshoot and solve development challenges as needed
• Contribute to team objectives and take on additional responsibilities

Requirements

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s in Computer Science, IT, or related field
• Basic experience with object-oriented programming (e.g., Java or Python) and either RESTful APIs or SQL (having all three is preferred)
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work in a multi-stakeholder Agile and DevSecOps environment
• Must be able to obtain Federal Government clearance (VetsEZ assists)

Nice-to-haves

• Exposure to Git/version control
• Experience with JSON and API testing tools such as Postman or Swagger
• Familiarity with Jira or other Agile project management tools
