Role Overview

Staff Android Engineer (remote, United States)

Lead the technical development of Reddit’s Brand Ad Formats, with a focus on Video Ads, for Android. You’ll shape the advertising ecosystem by building high-performance, scalable, and innovative ad experiences, partnering closely with Product, Design, and Engineering.

Responsibilities

Own the technical strategy for developing Reddit’s Android Video Ads into a market-leading product
Partner with Product and Design to create and execute a roadmap for new ad formats and features
Lead end-to-end technical design and implementation of scalable Android ad experiences
Establish best practices for building, scaling, and delivering video ads and Reddit-unique ad formats
Drive the full development lifecycle: discovery, prototyping, testing, experimentation, and deployment
Mentor senior engineers, promote operational excellence, and foster continuous improvement
Ensure performance, reliability, and scalability for ad formats serving millions of users
Use data and analytics to inform product decisions and optimizations

Requirements

8+ years professional software engineering experience, with a focus on Android
3+ years deep expertise in Kotlin and modern Android architectural patterns
Shipped at least 4 Android projects from ideation to production deployment
Experience in Ad Tech, especially interactive/rich-media mobile experiences
Product mindset with emphasis on UI polish and performance
Ability to design and build fault-tolerant, data-intensive client-side systems
Experience using AI tools (e.g., GenAI) to enhance engineering productivity
Proficiency with product metrics and experimentation; data analysis using tools such as BigQuery and Firebase
Familiarity with AI/ML integration and willingness to work across the stack
Strong leadership, communication, organizational skills, and remote collaboration experience

Nice to Have

Experience with Video Ads and at scaled peer companies
Jetpack Compose experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or equivalent practical experience)
