About the role
Role Overview
Android Engineer (RFID) joining a mobile team to build and improve an RFID Android application for Zebra rugged devices. You’ll work hands-on with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, integrate hardware SDKs, and ship secure, stable features into production—while learning to develop within DoD environments.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain the Android app for rugged Zebra handhelds
- Develop in a multi-module codebase
- Write clean, reliable Kotlin and Jetpack Compose that handles RFID, barcode, and sensor data
- Implement offline-first features: local caching, offline data handling, and secure storage
- Collaborate with backend (.NET) and frontend (Vue.js) teams to support seamless syncing and UX
- Test, troubleshoot, and fix edge-case device issues seen in the field
- Participate in code reviews, technical planning, and continuous quality improvements
Requirements
- 2–5 years of experience building Android apps with Kotlin, coroutines, and flows
- Strong understanding of Jetpack Compose (recomposition, stability, performance tuning)
- Experience with Dagger Hilt for dependency injection
- Experience with Android Room for offline-first architecture
- Interest in hardware integrations (RFID, barcode scanning)
- Strong debugging skills and attention to detail
- Experience with unit, UI, and instrumentation testing for rugged hardware and critical edge-case environments
- Willingness to learn cybersecurity, app hardening, and DoD deployment constraints
- U.S. citizenship required and ability to obtain a Secret clearance
Nice to Haves
- Modular architecture experience to optimize build times and improve scalability/library management
- Experience with MDM device/profile management
- Experience with Zebra handhelds or Zebra SDKs
- Exposure to RMF/ATO, app hardening, and IL4/5 environments
- Familiarity with RFID workflows or asset tracking use cases
- Experience building secure, rugged mobile apps for industrial or defense settings
Location / Logistics
- Remote (U.S.-based) with some travel required
