About the role

Role Overview

Android Engineer (Remote) joining Seller Engineering within the Merchant Systems team.

You will design and build mobile experiences for sellers and buyers, focusing on growth, trust, and scalability. Your work will directly support how sellers discover, set up, and scale their inventory on Whatnot.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain high-quality Android features using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
  • Collaborate with product, design, and backend teams to define project goals, scope, and technical trade-offs
  • Contribute to shared mobile infrastructure and engineering best practices
  • Maintain quality through code reviews, documentation, and active technical discussions

Requirements

  • 5+ years shipping Android applications
  • Strong proficiency in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
  • Solid understanding of reactive programming with Kotlin Coroutines and Flows
  • Experience with MVI or MVVM architectural patterns
  • Deep knowledge of building responsive, fluid UIs
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across functions (product/design/backend)
  • Excellent communication and ability to drive alignment in fast-paced, ambiguous environments

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data and experimentation tools such as SQL, Snowflake, and A/B testing
  • Growth mindset and willingness to mentor others

Work Model / Location

  • Remote work or in-person collaboration at global hubs
  • Preference for candidates residing within commuting distance of New York or Seattle
