Android Engineer - Remote

Role Overview

Join as an Android Engineer on a cross-functional scrum team building features for Wealthfront’s Android investment and cash account applications. The role supports remote work in the US or a hybrid office in Palo Alto, CA, partnering with designers, product managers, and frontend/backend engineers to deliver a smooth, engaging user experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain a high-quality native Android application
• Collaborate with designers and frontend/backend engineers to build new features and improve existing functionality
• Work with backend teams to develop and test reusable REST APIs
• Implement and optimize app performance using Android SDK tools and best practices
• Contribute to a delightful user experience aligned with Material Design
• Participate in planning and defining team priorities and initiatives with leadership
• Write automated tests to ensure code quality and stability
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to peers; make independent progress on tasks

Requirements

• 2–6 years of professional Android development
• Strong proficiency in Java or Kotlin
• Experience writing unit tests and building testable, maintainable code
• Knowledge of Android SDK performance tools and optimization techniques
• Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)

Nice-to-haves

• Experience working closely with design systems and delivering UI/UX improvements at scale
• Familiarity with mentoring peers and influencing technical tradeoffs around maintainability and risk
