About the role
Android Engineer (Remote, US)
Design, build, and maintain high-quality Android features for the Oura mobile app in an autonomous, cross-functional squad environment.
Role overview
- Work on projects on the team’s roadmap with end-to-end ownership: concepting, design, implementation, release, maintenance, and bug fixes.
- Collaborate closely with PMs and Designers, and with other teams (backend, firmware, data science, research/science, QA).
- Contribute to technical discussions, code reviews, and platform-level improvements.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain high-quality code for Android app initiatives.
- Push projects forward by aligning with PMs and Designers.
- Collaborate with backend, firmware, data/ML, research/science, and QA partners to deliver complex features.
- Partner with Android colleagues across the US and EU to improve the Android codebase.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional experience shipping Android apps.
- Strong Kotlin and modern Android architectures (MVVM, MVI, etc.).
- Experience with RxJava and/or Coroutines/Flow.
- Jetpack Compose proficiency and familiarity with common third-party libraries.
- Ability to collaborate on complex shared codebases.
- Proficiency with Git, branching, and standard code review workflows.
- Quality focus via unit tests and manual testing.
- Strong computer science fundamentals and design patterns.
Nice to have
- 5+ years of professional Android experience.
- Experience with: Dagger, Realm, JNI, C++, PyTorch, TypeScript, CI/CD, or Kotlin Multiplatform.
- Experience with Agile/Scrum, systems architecture, and performance optimization.
- Comfort working asynchronously across countries/time zones.
- Experience with firmware/hardware-adjacent projects.
- Experience in health/wellness/fitness or women’s health products.
- Exposure to ML algorithms, encryption, or data privacy.
Location / work setup
- Remote US role with preference for candidates in the US-Pacific time zone.
- Offices available in San Francisco and San Diego for hybrid/office preferences.
