Android Engineer (Kotlin and Java)

You will work fully remotely as an hourly paid contractor reviewing and creating Android engineering training content. The role focuses on evaluating AI-generated Android code and producing high-quality reference implementations and explanations.

Role overview

• Review AI-generated Android code, mobile architectures, and technical explanations
• Produce reference implementations and step-by-step reasoning for complex engineering problems
• Assess, fact-check, and rank multiple AI responses based on correctness and reasoning quality

Responsibilities

• Develop AI training content
  • Create detailed prompts across Android topics
  • Write high-quality reference answers
• Optimize AI performance
  • Evaluate and compare AI responses for correctness, clarity, security, performance, reliability, and prompt adherence
• Ensure model integrity
  • Validate outputs for inaccuracies or unsafe recommendations using real-world Android use cases
• Evaluate issues in areas such as:
  • Jetpack Compose/UI, recomposition, state hoisting, UI performance
  • Concurrency, threading, cancellation, race conditions, avoiding ANRs
  • Memory/performance, app lifecycle, networking, persistence
  • Build/release practices and technical accuracy
• Write clear technical explanations and model solutions demonstrating best practices

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in CS/Software Engineering (or equivalent experience)
• 4+ years of professional experience building production Android apps using Kotlin (and ideally Java)
• Expert proficiency in Kotlin (1.6+) (null-safety, coroutines/flows, sealed types, generics, idiomatic patterns)
• Strong Android fundamentals:
  • Activities/Fragments, state restoration
  • Background execution limits and permissions
• Modern UI experience with Jetpack Compose and/or Views
• Concurrency expertise with coroutines/Flow
• Architecture knowledge:
  • MVVM, Clean Architecture concepts
  • Dependency injection (Hilt/Dagger/Koin)
  • Modularization
• Networking & data:
  • Retrofit/OkHttp, serialization, caching/offline strategies
  • Persistence: Room/SQLite/DataStore
• Testing & quality:
  • JUnit, instrumentation tests, Compose UI tests / Espresso
  • Mocking strategies
  • CI/CD and Gradle / Play Console workflow
• Security awareness:
  • Keystore / EncryptedSharedPreferences
  • Auth flows, certificate pinning awareness
  • Privacy permissions and sensitive data handling
• Minimum C1 English proficiency for writing technical explanations and following guidelines
• Methodical, detail-oriented evaluation of subtle issues in complex Android code

Nice to have

• Prior experience with AI data training/annotation or evaluating AI-generated technical content
