Analytics Engineer

Role: Analytics Engineer

TrustedTech is hiring an Analytics Engineer to own the data transformation layer that powers business-critical decision-making. You’ll build production dbt projects with clean, well-tested code and optimized SQL, and play a key technical role in migrating from Azure Synapse Analytics to Microsoft Fabric.

Responsibilities

Data Modeling & dbt

• Own and evolve the dbt project architecture, maintaining a clear separation of staging, intermediate, and presentation mart layers.
• Write advanced, performance-tuned SQL for Azure Synapse and Microsoft Fabric endpoints, including:
  • window functions, CTEs, recursive queries
  • understanding query plan behavior at scale
• Enforce production dbt standards for every model:
  • schema tests, singular tests, freshness checks
  • model documentation and exposure definitions
• Own the central semantic layer in dbt (metrics, dimensions, business logic) to ensure consistent definitions for Power BI and downstream consumers.
• Run regular SQL performance reviews and select appropriate dbt materializations (incremental, table, view, ephemeral) based on usage and data volume.

Data Warehouse Development & Platform Migration

• Operate across Azure Synapse Analytics and Microsoft Fabric during the transition.
• Maintain existing Synapse pipelines while migrating workloads to Fabric Lakehouses, Warehouses, and Data Pipelines.
• Build modular dbt models compatible with both Synapse and Fabric, handling dialect/adapter differences without creating migration debt.
• Consolidate transactional data from CRM, finance, billing, and operations into a trusted platform used for executive reporting on Synapse and scalable into Fabric.
• Define and enforce data quality standards with source/system owning teams.
• Work with Engineering and IT to onboard new data sources using maintainable and monitored ETL/ELT pipelines (replacing ad-hoc scripts).

Business Insight & Revenue Enablement

• Conduct data audits to identify revenue opportunities, margin leakage, and process inefficiencies, and translate findings into recommendations.
• Partner with Finance, Sales, and Business Development to align models and KPIs with revenue goals using accurate, governed data.
• Support Power BI dashboards for profitability and performance, powered by structured dbt models.

Requirements

• Engineering-disciplined approach with high standards for clean code, documentation, and robust test coverage.
• Strong technical depth in data warehouse fundamentals.
• Ability to write highly optimized SQL that performs at scale and to reason about query plans.
• Experience building and maintaining production dbt projects and semantic layers.
• Experience communicating effectively with both engineers (optimization strategy) and business stakeholders (plain-language insights).
• Comfortable working across Azure Synapse and Microsoft Fabric during a migration.

Nice-to-haves

• Direct experience with platform migrations from Synapse to Fabric.
• Demonstrated success improving revenue analytics via data audits and KPI governance.
